The 5K for $5K Music Run was established in 2017 through the William Burchett Foundation (WBF) Scholarship to raise money for at-risk youth with a focus on music. The WBF was founded in 2014 after the unfortunate loss of William who lived at the time in Golden, CO. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and his passion for music was only surpassed by his compassion for others. He was a talented, outstanding musician who fronted bands in California (Holy Ghosts) and Colorado (The Resonatorz). William Burchett’s legacy on caring and giving back is perpetuated with this Foundation scholarship through activities such as the 5k Fun Run. The proceeds from this race will continue to give the gift of music freely to at-risk youth who are in need and in turn, give back to the community.
The funds raised in the Colorado 5K for $5K Music Run will benefit the Music Appreciation Project (MAP). This project was initiated in 2015 by Chris Van Noy and Steven Cram, who as musicians and teachers found a need and a vision to help at-risk youth. Their project gives needed youth an opportunity to learn how to play instruments or sing, get a chance to play on stage, and receive instruments to own. Their project focuses on individuals and community with a 360’ music appreciation model. The kids who learn and participate will also fund raise with concerts and benefits to bring in more opportunities for others.
